UGRA Spring Forum

Please save April 21, 2:00 to 4:00, for your Spring Forum at the Arboretum (COVID-19 dependent). Maya Goldenberg (Philosophy and author of a book on Vaccine Hesitancy) and Peter Krell will be giving a joint talk on Reflections on Covid-19: the virus, disease and challenges and there will be a second presentation on Experiential Learning by Elaine Fenner, Director of Experiential Learning.

The Study and Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease:  Which are DNA-based tools discovered by Maria DeRosa's research team? Speaker:  Professor Maria DeRosa, Interim Dean, Faculty of Science, Carlton University, Ottawa, Ontario  (Maria.DeRosa@carleton.ca) Short Overview: Dr. DeRosa will  describe the science of aptamers, how the aptamers were discovered and characterized, and their applications for the study and treatment of Parkinson’s disease

Alberta Assoc. of Retired Academic Staff re free Zoom session:  The CANADIAN ARCTIC  Wednesday, March 23 at 1:00 pm MT Title: The Canadian Arctic Speaker:  Professor Emeritus John England Short Overview of Session:  His talk will include some of scientific discoveries of international interest from the ice age to the present that were made at U. Alberta. He will also address climate change with a focus on the late 19th century explorers.

Over the course of four Saturdays (March 5th to 26th), the following sessions will be presented by:  David Docherty, BSc., MSc., PhD.& Chris Pengilly, MD., ChB.  Each presentation will focus on a specific system of the body and cover how it works but also what can go wrong as we age and how to fix it.  Presentation Topics:   10 am - noon PST Mar 05: “The Heart of the Matter!” Mar 12:  “What’s a bad joint like this doing in a nice person like you?”
