Details

Annual General Meeting, Thursday, June 16, 10:00 to 12:00 by Zoom. A link will be provided as we approach the meeting.

We invite all of our members to our Annual General Meeting during which you will hear from us and we get to hear from you. The AGM will begin with a presentation by Paul Kelly, long time Research and Apiary Manager at the University of Guelph, Honey Bee Research Centre since 1987 on  “The Honey Bee Research Centre - Pollinator Problems and Solutions.” This is a particularly timely topic considering the increase in losses expected in this year’s bee population as described in https://news.uoguelph.ca/2022/04/canadian-beekeepers-face-devasting-colony-losses-a-u-of-g-expert-explains-why. Paul has a long history of work with bees beginning in grade six, is a leading expert on their challenges and husbandry and produces his own videos on bee keeping.

This presentation will be followed by the official AGM during which we will bring the members up to date with reports from the various officers, including the status of the $30,000 drive for the UGRA Scholarship and results of a survey on the effects of recent losses of privileges to our members, provide a budget for approval and vote on a slate of candidates as officers or other directors for the upcoming 2022/2023 term.

At the end of the meeting, we will have a draw for those who donated to the scholarship drive including for some gifts provided by the administration and a grand prize of a home-made Hungarian dinner for 6 guests hosted by fellow retiree, Éva Nagy as Chef and UGRA President Peter Krell as Sous Chef and Butler.

We look forward to having a good turnout, though we apologize for having to go with a Zoom meeting again due to the challenging nature of COVID-19 in Guelph.
