MURA Virtual Fall Lecture on Managing Your Digital Assets

Date and Time

Details

McGill University Retiree Association (MURA) invites you to attend a virtual lecture by Mtre. Nancy Cleman, Advocatus Emeritus , Partner, Lapointe Rosenstein Marçhand Melancon on MANAGING YOUR DIGITAL ASSETS: Yesterday, today & tomorrow.

We will discuss how to manage and deal with digital assets such as email, social media, and related matters. We live more and more of our lives on-line and rely on our cellphones to hold a plethora of information (photos, contact lists, passwords, etc.). There are issues of privacy and legacy that need to be addressed as many of the websites are controlled by third parties. The purpose of the talk is to educate the audience on this topic and make everyone aware of risks and rewards. It is important to plan and manage your digital assets, especially in cases of incapacity and estate matters.

Mtre Nancy Cleman is a partner at Lapointe Rosenstein Marchand Melançon. She is a member of the Barreau du Québec and the Law Society of Ontario.  She is a graduate of McGill University (BSc 1977, BCL and LLB, 1981) and is a registered trademark agent and an accredited mediator (commercial). Nancy has extensive experience both nationally and internationally, and provides legal advice to a variety of corporate and commercial clients with a focus on business law, intellectual property, and technology law.

Mtre Cleman is active in community work and sits on several boards and committees. She is President of the Canadian Technology Law Association, co-chairs the committee on access to justice in English for the Barreau de Montréal, and sits on the Board of La Société Place des Arts, La Fondation de la Place des des Arts, and Portage. In addition, she regularly speaks and gives conferences on a variety of topics.
