Cycling 4 Chemo Chairs [1] is an initiative to raise funds to support the purchase of new chemo chairs for Grand River Regional Cancer Centre (GRRCC).
The initiative is led by Cyndy McLean. She was a patient at GRRCC and, starting in March 2019, received 21 chemotherapy treatments over 10 months. She received exceptional care, including addressing concerns associated with her pre-existing condition. Cyndy is a paraplegic because of a spinal cord injury after falling 80 feet off a cliff while hiking in 2003.
Cyndy was an accomplished marathoner prior to her back injury and has become an adept hand cyclist since becoming a paraplegic. Healthy the past several years since her chemotherapy treatments, Cyndy is planning to do 10 rides of 21 km each in the month of September to raise funds for the purchase of new chemo chairs at GRRCC. The rides are in Guelph, Fergus, Elora, Elmira, Milbank/Linwood, North Perth, Waterloo, Cambridge and Kitchener.
Fundraising began in June and already enough money has been raised to buy two chairs at $7000 each. There are opportunities to be donors and/or sponsors. Please go to the project website [1](on the GRRCC Foundation website [2]) for more details and see attachment for information regarding sponsorship tiers.
