Most UoG Retirees should have received a letter from the Guelph-Wellington-Dufferin (GWD) United Way highlighting the needs of over 92 social service programs in the community and asking for your donation.
Last year, the UoG Retiree community contributed over $64,000 – over 10% of the University’s Goal. I’m sure we can exceed that generosity this year. We have already 50% of last year’s contributions. If you have donated – Thank You; otherwise, visit Guelph United Way and consider a donation with your pledge form.
As you know, the University campaign included quite a number of campus events. You can monitor the progress of the campaign and find events to participate in on the University UW campaign website.
NOTE: change of start time – 2:00pm Program begins at 2:30pm

Again this year, the UoG President’s Office is hosting a Retirees Social. This event provides an opportunity for UoG Retirees to stay connected with the university and learn about what is new and changing on campus. The event typically includes a welcome from the President or a member of the senior administration team followed by a tour of a new facility or research presentation by a faculty member. This year the College of Business and Economics and the newly renovated Macdonald Hall will be the featured tour.
Unfortunately, President Vaccarino has other commitments and will not be at the Social. Don O’Leary, VP Admin., and Julia Christensen Hughes, CBE Dean, will welcome us.
To assist planning of refreshments and tour, please register online at 2016UGRetirees. Free parking will be provided.
For more information contact Claire Alexander at 519-824-4120 x53098 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

As usual, in addition to the business meeting we will begin with a speaker from the University Administration. This year Martha Harley, Associate Vice-President Human Resources will be our guest. Human Resources looks after most of our ongoing contact with the university, including Benefits, Privileges and Pension matters so this will be an opportunity to find out about any possible changes to these that may affect us or future retirees and to pose any general questions about these areas that you may have.
We are also going to try something new this year. UGRA retirees (and their partners if they wish) remain for a light lunch following the AGM. It is a nice venue and we hope that people will take advantage of this to socialize in a relaxed setting. The cost is $20 per person and pre-payment is required.
Because the Food must be ordered in advance, Registration for the Luncheon is now closed.
Just a reminder of our Spring Forum which takes place next Thursday afternoon. Please plan to attend if you can and bring your partner if you would like – we have an excellent panel and it should be an interesting discussion and an opportunity to ask questions if you have them. Please mark the afternoon of Apr. 14th on your calendars and plan to attend the UGRA spring forum at the U of G Arboretum Centre. There will be refreshments and an opportunity to socialize beginning at 1:15, followed by a panel presentation on a range of financial literacy topics beginning at 2:00. UGRA is making tentative plans for a special activity, a dinner cruise on the Grand River from Caledonia to Brantford and return (total of about 40 Km and taking about 3.5 hours.
The cost for the cruise and dinner would be about $50.00 per person (cash bar available). If there is enough interest, UGRA will also arrange bus transport from Guelph to Caledonia and back at a modest extra cost. UGRA is thinking that a talk on the Six-Nations history and recent issues would be educational during the cruise and possibly some music, too. For information on Grand River Cruises please look at www.grandrivercruises.ca.
The UGRA executive would like an expression of interest (no obligation, of course) so please let us know with a return message to email@example.com.
Do you know what Ontario’s teachers, municipal employees, and hospital workers take for granted that University employees are missing? It’s a multi-employer jointly sponsored pension plan (JSPP). Public sector workers in the aforementioned areas are members of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP), OMERS, and HOOP respectively.
